, the carvings, it represents commerce, navigation, all of the things that san francisco is famous for. >> the wood you see in the board of supervisor's chambers is oak and all hand carved on site. interesting thing about the oak is there isn't anymore in the entire world. the floors in china was cleard and never replanted. if you look up at the seceiling you would believe that's hand kof carved out of wood and it is a cast plaster sealing and the only spanish design in an arts building. there are no records about how many people worked on this building. the workman who worked on this building did not all speak the same language. and what happened was the person working next to the other person respected a skill a skill that was so wonderful that we have this masterpiece to show the world today. >> welcome to "culturewire." today we are at recology. they are celebrate 20 years of one of the most incredibly unique artist residency programs. we are here to learn more from one of the resident artists. welcome to the show, deborah. tell us how this program began 20 years ago. >> the progr

it be community safety, housing, commerce, recreation and open space element -- any decision that we take should look at all of the issues that the plan contains. this specific plan does address specifically the areas that we see at most risk that was pointed out, where might we see tsunamis and all of these and we see that. but when we are making decisions and coding or planning code should be based on accurate maps. this is gives an idea we should look out for this area and an area of risk but if we want to go into the specific risks like with treasury island look at the data at that point and time. >> thank you. >> i wanted to thank you for the presentations. i had a question from the -- or from the public testimony. i know that at the joint policy committee which is the a bag mtc and air district and that body we're looking at sea level rise analysis, and there are new methods looked at right now for large disaster events that will be coming more frequently in the future and i think they said once a month and in 40 years there will be something once a month and how it impacts to those ar
policy for the san francisco chamber of commerce. i have a letter for each us, stating the clam bers' strong support in the increase of tami medallions. the unmet demand for cabs in san francisco is well-documented and well-demonstrated. this need is only going to grow as the citis a population grows as our business continues it rebound and tourism increases. as anyone who visits or lives or works in san francisco will tell you there are not enough cabs on the street and with all due respect to the drivers because i believe what they are saying about their own reality, it's true in their cases, but as a consumer, and someone who lives here, as i do in district 9, and works in the city. i will tell you treasvirtually impossible for me to get a cab most of the time. so in representing the chamber, we want to convey to you the chambers' strong support and urge you to increase the number of medallions. >> thank you. next speaker. >> peter witt. >> good afternoon, mr. witt. >> with all due respect to the chamber of commerce, mostly impossible. what does that mean? we do have a dispat
chambers of commerce, minority chambers, small business chambers, et cetera, circulating it to all of your agencies, as well as our other stake holders and partners for comment. and bring it back to you in november for final approval, incorporating any comments we may receive. i'm happy to answer any questions you have on the item. >> we do have a question from -- >> so in looking at your names of the publications, i'm not familiar. are there any african-american publications? >> yes. the san francisco bay view is an african-american. >> you mentioned the claim befores of commerce are included in this. >> yes. >> now is this section regarding financial institutions, is that new or have they always been there? >> it's always been there. this is where they wanted more detail. the dbe regulation says guarantees shall encourage use of minority owned institutions. the federal reserve publishes a list of minority owned financial institutions in every area. whenever we have needed banking services we have looked at that list and solicited from that list. in san francisco i believe it is bank of g
, i'm dee dee workman with the san francisco chamber of commerce and a resident of district nine, pg&e rate payer, representing over 1,500 local businesses and resident owners and employees. we are very concerned about the impacts of the clean power sf program on san francisco businesses, residents and the local community. community choice aggregation was originally designed to inject competition and generation of electrical power. the goals were to drive prices down, maintain rate stability, provide over half the power load from renewable sources and find a supplier for a long-term contract. this contract ensures none of those goals. rates for electricity charges will increase. this is a short-term contract that creates no green power, results in net loss of jobs in san francisco. all the liability rests with the taxpayers. while it is well intended and we appreciate the hard work that's gone into this we feel like it is not ready to go. and clean power san francisco does not represent or reflect goals of community choice aggregation program. the san francisco chamber of commerce ur
the city can use land use controls when it might conflict with fair commerce regulations. >> right. >> but i'm not particularly familiar with that. it's something we could certainly look into. >> okay. that would be great, just wondering one way or another. and then this came up when i was talking to some of the small businesses. someone suggested that we have an inclusionary ordinance, sort of what we have for housing and new developments that are mixed-use. is there any way of requiring a percentage be independent or family-owned retail? or is that not possible? >> again, i think it might be possible. again the limits for what we can regulate as far as interstate commerce and what is fair competition. we can look into that and get back to this body. >> okay. finally conditional use. i know this were some areas of the city where big box is allowed without hearing. >> that is correct. >> where are those? >> petraro. it's not like the sud so it would depend on the underlying use. >> i would like to understand that a little bit better. you can answer it here. thank you. >>
